Dr. King is the principle founder of the MELLIVORA GROUP. He is a recognized speaker, researcher, supervisor, educator, clinician, and author with 15 years of clinical experience in correctional, outpatient, private, and community practice settings with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. King holds a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision (Graduation with Distinction and Presidential Honors), a Master of Counseling in Mental Health Counseling (Graduation with Honors), and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. For 7 years he served as the Governor appointed chair of the Utah Clinical Mental Health Counselor licensure board for the Department of Occupational and Professional Licensing. He is the Student Development Coordinator for Walden University's School of Counseling programs. He received the 2012 AMHCA Mental Health Counselor of the Year Award.
Dr. King served as a DSM-5 Revision Task Force committee member for the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) and the American Counseling Association (ACA), giving national and state presentations on the DSM-5 revision process and proposed diagnostic changes. He completed a podcast on the DSM-5 with the ACA and a webinar on the DSM-5 for the ACA, and writes monthly articles on the DSM-5 in the ACA’s Counseling Today. Dr. King used to clinically direct an outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinic that collected data for the American Psychiatric Association’s Routine Clinical Practice field trials that informed the DSM-5 revision process and is listed on page 914 of the DSM-5 as a Collaborating Investigator. He has taught DSM and Clinical Assessment classes at the bachelor and master’s level.
